Miss Mess
MissMess is genuine art, colourful and powerful creativity inspired by true people and a genuine love of art. The artist who stands behind the brand "MissMess" is painter Marijana Zebeljan. She printed and handpainted her hauntingly beautiful paintings onto t-shirts, skirts and bags thus rendering her art wearable. The trend for wearable art isn’t just about finding one off pieces that you see on anyone else. It’s about getting the work of emerging artists out there in to the public eye, or even better as Marijana said to create a "mobile gallery ", exposed to the street and not hidden in a stuffy and pretentious gallery.
MissMess, how come?
If you are a painter usually you're in a big "Mess" since people mostly don't pay attention too much on art and if you're an artist
you're practically starving hoping that someone will come to buy one of your pieces so that you could go and buy more colour and
keep working. Even if you're a "celebrated" artist you still have the same problem and no matter that you are well known in those circles still guarantees you nothing.
That is sad... because people should have a greater love for art and support artists so that they have the chance to be "productive " in their art. However, I decided to try to "cheat" by putting my paintings on bags, t-shirts and skirts. I tried to offer people art not on "canvas" but on cotton instead. I hope that they would like to be "a walking gallery" by having one piece that no one else has. I start with all this purposely wanting to make something for those who love art but cant afford to have it. That is usually like that. People who love art or others who recognise the art are usually the ones who either are artists themselves or people with art in their soul but no money in their pocket. Now those people have the possibility to "wear" that art... well at least my art.
Miss Mess is "mess" in the most positive sense of the word, that's mess of creativity, the most powerful and colourful creativity inspired by life, people and art her self.. One of my "inspirations" is the great Frida Kahlo . Her personality and style never fails to provocate me constructively. That's why you will find her in lots of my "montages". She is not the only one who inspires me but is
certainly "light motiv"
Your humorous and witty montages are also part of whole story?
Basically I wanted to make some interesting and comfortable "homes" for all my stuff . That's why I make all those collages,
to connect the unconnected. Modern with traditional when its about art or when it's just about photos that I use...old black and white and by using the miracle of today's technology... colour photos made by digital cameras. everyday life....things which make me happy or angry...
Trying to find some place for them inside my montage using symbols, actually photographs of people who are "actors" and trying to give them some surreal dimension and hoping that like this they will become comic.
For the future I have on my mind to make some shots with a great artist, a musician-violin player who is everything but not ordinary. Not just that he is talented but he is a very interesting person . I would like to use him in my montages but we will see..I hope I will have his acceptance.
MissMess also includes "Neck-installations" or "necklaces"... 
based on "recycling"?
That is a story which begins where all the others end. At a pile of garbage. It's where I go in order to save little pieces of glass,
bits of metal, pearls which had been thrown away, it's where I go looking or wire...
Pieces which I find I fit into one whole, giving them another dimension and in return I get freedom...
Marijana Zebeljan as a painter ?
As a painter I have had more than 30 solo and group exhibitions...The most recent was a participation at Florence Bienalle for contemporary art 2005, where I went as a representative of Serbia and Montenegro and also a participation in a "Book Art Project" in Roma, Italy started by UNESCO.
Right now I have my annual exhibition which has the name "The big summer sale"... I am trying to "cheat" again.!!!
